Every Umrah budget question comes down to the same six line items, whichever country you’re flying from: flights, visa, hotels, local transport, food, and incidentals. This guide gives you the calculator method once, then walks through a worked example for a family of three from India, the USA, and the UK so you can see exactly how the same framework produces very different totals depending on where you start.

How to read the examples below: These retain the article’s illustrative price inputs, with corrected arithmetic. The hotel column is the total for one shared room for the stated stay; the per-person column divides that room cost by three. Totals add the low and high ends of the listed family costs; per-person amounts are rounded. They are not verified September 2026 fares or bookable offers. Check current visa eligibility at the official Saudi eVisa portal and package inclusions at Nusuk Umrah.
The Six-Line Budget Method
Whatever your currency, every Umrah trip breaks down into the same six categories. Work through them in this order:
- Visa and insurance — use the quote for your eligibility and visa route. If a package includes hotels or transport, count those costs only once
- Flights — the most variable line item, driven by season and booking window
- Hotels — driven by star rating and distance from the Haram; shared rooms reduce per-person cost significantly
- Local transport (Madinah↔Makkah) — SAPTCO bus (budget) or Haramain train (faster)
- Food — budget roughly $8–15 / £6–12 / ₹600–1,200 per person per day
- Incidentals (local SIM/eSIM, Zamzam containers, small purchases) — enter known costs separately, then choose an optional contingency percentage of the subtotal
Add them up per person, then multiply by your family size — but remember hotel cost per person drops when you share a triple or quad room, so calculate hotels as a total room cost divided by occupants, not as a flat per-person hotel rate.

Why the Totals Look So Different
The examples use different flight and hotel ranges. Compare quotes for the same dates, room occupancy, baggage allowance and length of stay before comparing destinations or currencies. The calculator works in one currency at a time and does not convert exchange rates.
Three Ways to Reduce Any of These Budgets
- Compare several travel dates. Check actual quotes around Ramadan and school holidays, when demand can change prices substantially.
- Share rooms across the full family. A triple or quad room split three or four ways is dramatically cheaper per person than separate doubles.
- Compare flights before committing. Check nearby departure dates, baggage allowances and refund conditions. Early booking does not guarantee the lowest fare.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is India cheaper than the USA or UK for Umrah? It depends on your route, dates, room choices and exchange rate. These examples use different assumptions and are not a like-for-like country price ranking.
Does this calculator work for a solo traveller? Yes. Set travellers to 1 and enter your actual room quote in the calculator. Do not use the family table’s hotel allocation as a solo room price: a solo traveller pays the whole room bill.
How accurate are these figures for one specific month? Treat every range here as a planning baseline, not a quote — always check live flight and hotel prices for your actual travel dates, since Ramadan and December pricing can sit well above even the top of these ranges.
What’s not included in this calculator? Shopping, gifts, optional Ziyarat tours and pre-trip costs such as health appointments or new Ihram garments are only included if you enter them under Other group costs. Add your own quotes and avoid counting any bundled charge twice.
