Umrah Budget Calculator 2026: India, USA & UK Family Cost Compared

Last updated: August 2026 | Based on our own family-of-three trip cost from Bangalore, cross-checked against current 2026 pricing for USA and UK pilgrims.

Every Umrah budget question comes down to the same six line items, whichever country you’re flying from: flights, visa, hotels, local transport, food, and incidentals. This guide gives you the calculator method once, then walks through a worked example for a family of three from India, the USA, and the UK so you can see exactly how the same framework produces very different totals depending on where you start.

The Six-Line Budget Method

Whatever your currency, every Umrah trip breaks down into the same six categories. Work through them in this order:

  1. Visa + Nusuk-bundled accommodation minimum — fixed per person, least flexible
  2. Flights — the most variable line item, driven by season and booking window
  3. Hotels — driven by star rating and distance from the Haram; shared rooms reduce per-person cost significantly
  4. Local transport (Madinah↔Makkah) — SAPTCO bus (budget) or Haramain train (faster)
  5. Food — budget roughly $8–15 / £6–12 / ₹600–1,200 per person per day
  6. Incidentals (local SIM/eSIM, Zamzam containers, small purchases) — a flat buffer, typically 8–12% of the total

Add them up per person, then multiply by your family size — but remember hotel cost per person drops when you share a triple or quad room, so calculate hotels as a total room cost divided by occupants, not as a flat per-person hotel rate.

Worked Example: Family of Three From India (₹)

ItemPer PersonFamily of 3
Visa (agent-assisted route)₹15,000₹45,000
Flights (Bangalore, via Gulf hub)₹35,000–45,000₹1,05,000–1,35,000
Hotels (7 nights, triple room, budget-comfortable)₹18,000–25,000 (room total ÷ 3)₹18,000–25,000 total
SAPTCO bus (Madinah–Makkah)₹1,500₹4,500
Food + incidentals (7–8 days)₹8,000–12,000₹24,000–36,000
Total₹80,000–1,00,000~₹2,40,000–2,90,000

This closely matches our own real trip cost of roughly ₹2,42,000 for three people (~₹80,700 per person) for 7 nights across Madinah and Makkah in February — a useful real-world anchor for the India figure above.

Why the Totals Look So Different

The flight line is what actually separates these budgets — India, USA and UK visa and local-transport costs land in a similar relative range once converted, but flight cost per person varies by 2–3× depending on your home region’s distance and route competition to Jeddah/Madinah. If you’re budgeting from a country not listed here, use the same six-line method: your flight cost will usually be the deciding factor, everything else scales predictably.

Three Ways to Reduce Any of These Budgets

  1. Shift your dates outside Ramadan and December. This is the single biggest lever everywhere — flights and hotels can be 2–3× higher in peak season than in January or October.
  2. Share rooms across the full family. A triple or quad room split three or four ways is dramatically cheaper per person than separate doubles.
  3. Book flights 3–6 months ahead. Across all three countries, early booking typically saves 15–25% over last-minute fares.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is India cheaper than the USA or UK for Umrah? In absolute terms, yes — largely because of shorter/cheaper flight routes and lower food/incidental costs. The visa and local-transport costs are broadly comparable once converted.

Does this calculator work for a solo traveller? Yes — remove the “divide by occupants” step for hotels and use the per-person column directly.

How accurate are these figures for one specific month? Treat every range here as a planning baseline, not a quote — always check live flight and hotel prices for your actual travel dates, since Ramadan and December pricing can sit well above even the top of these ranges.

What’s not included in this calculator? Shopping, gifts, optional Ziyarat tours, and any pre-trip costs like vaccinations or new Ihram garments — budget separately for these.
