Morning & Evening Adhkar — Daily Duas for Protection (Arabic + English)

Last updated: August 2026

The morning and evening adhkar are a collection of short remembrances (dhikr) and supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ, recited daily to begin and end the day in the remembrance of Allah. They are among the most powerful daily habits a Muslim can build — a source of protection, barakah, and closeness to Allah.

This guide gives you the core, most-authenticated adhkar with Arabic, transliteration, and meaning, plus the best times to recite them.

When to Recite the Morning and Evening Adhkar

  • Morning adhkar: best recited between Fajr and sunrise. If missed, they can be made up later in the morning.
  • Evening adhkar: best recited between Asr and sunset (some extend to after Isha). If missed, make them up in the evening.

The Qur’an repeatedly instructs believers to remember Allah “morning and evening” (e.g. Surah al-Ahzab 33:41-42), which is the basis for this daily practice.

The Core Morning & Evening Adhkar

(Recite each at its time — the wording shifts slightly between morning “asbahna” and evening “amsayna.”)

1. Ayatul Kursi (once)

The greatest verse of the Qur’an (Surah al-Baqarah 2:255). Reciting it in the morning and evening is a means of Allah’s protection until the next morning/evening.

2. The Three Quls (three times each)

Surah al-Ikhlas, Surah al-Falaq, and Surah an-Nas — recited three times each, morning and evening. The Prophet ﷺ said they suffice a person against all things.

3. Sayyidul Istighfar — The Best Supplication for Forgiveness (once)

English meaning: “O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide by Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.”

The Prophet ﷺ said whoever says this with conviction in the day and dies that day enters Paradise (and likewise for the night).

4. The Morning/Evening Declaration (once or three times)

Transliteration (morning): Asbahna wa asbahal-mulku lillah, walhamdu lillah… English: “We have reached the morning and at this very time all sovereignty belongs to Allah, and all praise is for Allah…” (In the evening: “Amsayna wa amsal-mulku lillah…”)

5. Dua of Wellbeing (three times)

English meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for wellbeing in this world and the next. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and wellbeing in my religion, my worldly life, my family, and my wealth…”

6. Protection Dua (three times)

Transliteration: Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma’as-mihi shai’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i wa Huwas-Sami’ul-‘Alim. English: “In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.” (Said three times — whoever says it three times will not be harmed.)

7. Tasbih of Praise (as prescribed)

Transliteration: Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi (100 times) — whoever says it 100 times a day has their sins forgiven though they be like the foam of the sea.

The Benefits of the Daily Adhkar

  • Protection — many of the adhkar explicitly seek Allah’s protection from harm, seen and unseen, through the day and night.
  • Forgiveness — the istighfar and tasbih carry immense reward and expiation.
  • Barakah — beginning and ending the day in remembrance brings blessing into your time and tasks.
  • Closeness to Allah — consistency in dhikr keeps the heart connected throughout the day.

Imam an-Nawawi noted that the adhkar expiate for what happens between the morning and evening — starting and ending the day in worship.

How to Build the Habit

  • Start small. If reciting all of them feels overwhelming, begin with Ayatul Kursi, the three Quls, and the protection dua. Consistency with a few beats abandoning all.
  • Anchor it to Fajr and Asr prayers — recite immediately after, while you’re already seated.
  • Use a reliable app or printed card so you’re not searching each time. Many free adhkar apps include audio.
  • Involve the family — reciting together, especially with children, builds a lasting habit.
